We’re very excited about the launch of our newest invention, the Wild Bird Feeder! It’s a stylish feeder for small birds that spins squirrels off to keep them from stealing the seed. Here’s the finished product in action:
But there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes to achieve that simple function and sleek design. Here’s a glimpse into the manufacturing process…
This large metal tool forms the shape of one of the feeder’s plastic parts – in this case, one of the spinning hemispheres. The two halves of the tool fit together to form a mold.
Hot liquid plastic is injected into the mold, and cools to form the part. The whole process takes less than a minute.
Once all the parts are molded, they must be assembled carefully by hand. Here, a worker adds the flexible perches to a feeder’s base.
The finished feeders are inspected and put into their individual packaging. Once individually wrapped, they can then be palletized.
This pallet is designed for both shipping and in-store display. This type of setup is very attractive for retailers because of the ease of setup, and consequently can make it easier to secure prominent placement – and a large order! This particular display was created for Meijer – look for it in stores next month!
